Experience a slice of Greenland on a fantastic long weekend in the colorful capital, Nuuk. Traffic lights, buses, and lots of cars contrast with life in Greenland’s smaller towns and villages, but the stunning scenery and endless horizon automatically put city life into perspective.

Experiences all year round

In Nuuk, there are experiences for the nature lover, the culturally and historically interested, and for those who love the vibrant life of a capital city.

There is plenty to do in Nuuk all year round. The National Museum and the Nuuk Art Museum are open all year, and the colonial harbor is always worth a visit. Hunting enthusiasts should travel in September and October, while there are plenty of opportunities for Christmas shopping in the Nuuk Center in November and December. Also, check out the Katuaq Cultural Center website to see if there’s a concert you want to attend.

Please note: This is one of the only tours we offer in all seasons. Therefore, only some things you see in the pictures and the experience categories can be experienced at the same time. For instance, northern lights are seen in autumn and winter, and the whales are here in summer. You are welcome to ask us or read more about the seasons here.

2024: Flight from Copenhagen via Kangerlussuaq to Nuuk. Check-in at the accommodation. Possible trip to the Ice Sheet in Kangerlussuaq (optional) 2025: Direct flight from Copenhagen to Nuuk

2024

Your journey starts in Copenhagen, and from here you fly to Kangerlussuaq, where you land at 10.40. Later you change to a smaller plane that will fly you to Nuuk. Your stay in Kangerlussuaq may vary slightly depending on which day you travel. You should check if there is time for a trip to the Ice Sheet, Point 660, while you wait (extra charge).

Once you’ve landed in Nuuk from Kangerlussuaq later in the day, it’s on to the lovely Hotel Express for accommodation. The hotel has been awarded The Green Key environmental certificate. It is located in the heart of Nuuk, allowing you to explore the nearby area on organized tours or on your own.

2025

Your trip starts in Copenhagen, where you fly to Nuuk and land over lunch. From Nuuk Airport you will be transferred to the lovely Hotel HHE Express for your accommodation. The hotel is Green Key certified and located in the heart of Nuuk, and you have the opportunity to explore the nearby area either on organized tours or on your own.

Visit the Cultural Center, the Old Town, and the Colonial Harbor

Nuuk has much to offer you during your five-day stay. For example, you can visit the Katuaq Cultural Center, located right in the middle of Nuuk, alongside great shopping opportunities in the shopping center, Nuuk Center. You can visit the local fish and meat market, Kalaaliaraq, and then walk to the old town and the colonial harbor.

In the evening, you can eat at one of the town’s many restaurants, and remember to keep an eye out for concerts and events in Katuaq.

Art museum and outdoor activities

During your stay, we also recommend a visit to Nuuk’s Art Museum. The permanent exhibition includes many paintings by the famous Greenlandic painter Emanuel A. Petersen (1894-1948) ), but there are also exciting and beautiful contemporary art and changing exhibitions. Check the current opening hours, which may vary with the season.

If you’d rather be outdoors, there are plenty of great hiking opportunities around Nuuk.

Outdoor activities or visit the National Museum

You have the whole day at your disposal again, and we recommend a visit to the National Museum, located in the old colonial harbor.

Here you will find the unique mummies that were found in the Uummannaq area in the 1970s. These mummies are very well-preserved, so it seems as if time has stood still. On Sundays, the National Museum is open free of charge. Check the current opening hours, which may vary with the season.

Return flight from Nuuk via Kangerlussuaq to Copenhagen

Five wonderful days are coming to an end, and it’s time for your trip back to Copenhagen.

In 2024, your stay in Kangerlussuaq is 4-5 hours. You can use the time to go sightseeing in the area or on a tundra safari.

In 2025, you’ll fly directly to Copenhagen from Nuuk.

Hotel HHE Express is located in the heart of Nuuk, in the area called Tuujuk. The Hotel is close to a shopping area and sightseeing options. The Hotel is a sister hotel to Hotel Hans Egede, which is also located in the central part of Nuuk. There is access to wifi in all areas of the hotel, the reception will be open 24 hours a day, and there is a café/coffee shop, where you can sit down and enjoy good food and get something to drink.

Please note: It is not possible to have two twin beds at Hotel Hans Egede Express.

Walk on the Greenland Ice Sheet!

Travel season: All year

Duration: 5 hours

The Ice Sheet in Greenland is one of the largest sheets of Ice in the world and covers around 80% of Greenlands surface. Powerful 4×4 vehicles will take us through an incredibly beautiful landscape, through mountains, plains, and semi-desert valleys. At the end of the road, we walk to the Greenland Ice Sheet and onto the vast ice sheet. We spend some time exploring this world of ice before returning to our vehicle.
