Visit Ilulissat

Ilulissat is also known as “the city by the icebergs”. It is located right next to the iconic Isfjord, which was the first place in Greenland to be added to UNESCO’s World Heritage List. The ice fjord, the focal point of Ilulissat, offers unique views and various activities such as sailing among the icebergs, hiking and helicopter tours.

The area has been inhabited for 4,000 years due to its rich hunting grounds created by the impressive Ilulissat Icefjord. The icebergs originating from the Sermeq Kujalleq glacier are visible everywhere in the city. Ilulissat, Greenland’s third largest city, has over 4,500 inhabitants and is known for its sled dogs, which live just outside the city. Visitors meet a friendly local population, where old traditions coexist side by side with modernity.

Seasonal experiences

Despite the name, Greenland is probably best known for ice and snow and all the experiences it brings, but there is a big difference between the seasons in Greenland, and you quickly realize that each season has its own distinctive character.

The Greenlandic summer is something quite special and the country’s name will quickly make sense. Winter is as beautiful as it is long. Spring, on the other hand, is incredibly short. It’s almost more of a transition between winter and summer.

If you visit Greenland in autumn, it offers many fantastic experiences! The colors in nature change and the fishing starts up again. Autumn in Greenland is something very special!

"Everything was ready for us. They knew we would arrive, and every time, someone would welcome us. It was never a problem to have our 3-year-old with us. People are kid-friendly. The activities were also well-planned. It was a tight but good schedule, and we also enjoyed the days when we were "off activities."
